Goodbye, 2017. Hello, 2018. + FREEBIES

Sunday, 31 December 2017

2017 is coming to a close. How quick has this year gone?! I know, I know, everybody says the same thing every single year, but this year seemingly went in a blink of an eye! So, hows your year been? Please let me know. I hope it was good for you!

This year was a good year for me. It's treated me well I think which is a total blessing. I've had some cool experiences from working with Firmoo Optical Store and Cover-Up Cases, as well as experiencing new places, meeting new people, and figuring out my life just a tiny bit more.

So the whole 'figuring out life' part is true. I figured out this year what I love, what I want to do, what passions of mine are going to stick with me, and where I am in my Faith. Figuring out what you want to do in life never ends I don't think. But, 2017 opened a new door for me and I'm thankful that the Lord has shown me what direction to go in. Always follow your dreams, and do what makes you happy. If you keep working on your dreams, soon they'll be real, and you won't only be living your dreams in your sleep.

Every year we as human beings like to make our annual 'New Year's Resolutions', and every year most people give up on January 2nd. Hats off to those who keep and complete their resolutions, and those who complete some. In my near 20 years of life, I think the only resolution I've completed is to continue playing the guitar. Well, nearly 6 years later here I am, still playing the guitar. So, here are my resolutions for this year.

1 - The annual "I want to lose weight" goal. But, seriously, 2018 is the year I want to fully commit myself to exercise, and a healthier lifestyle. Not because I want to be a certain weight or jean size, but to just be healthy, and to feel happier, and to improve my health overall. I've always struggled with my weight growing up, and after being diagnosed with PCOS this year, it finally made sense as to why I always struggled with weight. So, next year I am determined to exercise daily, maybe start some classes to figure out what I like, and overall enjoy being active.

2 - Grow in my relationship with the Lord even more. I'm so excited about this one. I was always raised as Christian but committed myself to being a Christian and the Lord when I was 14/15. Next year I'm going to attend a new Church I have found and really like, as well as read my Bible more, and really grow in faith. I want to Pray more because I always fall asleep (sorry, God), journal about what I read and Pray, and just grow in Scripture.

3 - Take more photos. So, part of figuring out my life included figuring out that photography is really where my heart lies, and what I would be content with doing every day. I've made a goal for 2018 to take a photograph every single day. I want to take my camera with me everywhere and just take photos. You never know what you'll find that will make the perfect photo! I would also like to do my client based work, and work on my portraiture photography.

4 - Blog. YouTube. Vlog. 2018 is going to be the year that I fully commit to my creative mind and create what I want to create. I cannot wait to blog on a weekly basis. I'm so excited to share blog posts with y'all. I'm so excited to create YouTube videos that I'm proud of and love, too. It's so easy when you're a YouTube content creator to get sucked into what's 'In', and 'popular' and that moment. But, quite honestly, slime, diy's and skits just aren't me. Being creative is, and I want to showcase that more without stressing over views and sub counts. I also want to vlog more! This year I did 'Vlogmas' on my vlogging channel, and I loved it. I'm so excited to do that more.

So they're my resolutions for this year! I know, there aren't many, but less is more, and I can concentrate on these with my whole heart. I'm really interested in knowing what y'alls resolutions are for 2018. If you have any be sure to leave a comment telling me what they are. I'd love to know!

Tis The Season + The Reason

Monday, 25 December 2017

Hey, y'all. It's been a long while. As I'm typing this it's Christmas Eve, but when you're reading it, it's Christmas Day. Oh my goodness gracious, Merry Christmas. What an exciting day it is! I have been so excited for Christmas this year and it's finally here!!

As much I love Christmas for the gift giving, gift recieving, turkey dinner, and best of all, pigs in blankets, what tops off this special day, is the reason for this very special season..... Jesus. Jesus is the so amazing, and He is to be celebrated on this day!

"So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son." - John 1:14

I'm not only thankful for the birth Jesus, but I am in awe, and have so much love for how much love He has for us, and what sacrifice He took upon Himself FOR US. He died for us so we may have eternal life, and for our sins.

In Romans 5:8 it says, "God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us".  You see, we are sinners everyday, we always will be, but God, and our Saviour Jesus love us still. How amazing is that, y'all?! Holy moly.... we have an awesome God, who gave his one and only Son up for us so we may spend the rest of our lives in eternity with them! So. Much. Love.

I am so looking forward to Christmas day because not only am I able to wear cute Christmas themed pyjamas all day, but theres going to be great food, amazing company, many Christmas films, maybe too much chocolate (is there ever?), but most of all, an amazing spirit!

So this Christmas Day, if you're able or want to, take some time away from the TV, get a blanket and some coffee, and instead of cracking open the Quality Street, crack open the Bible, and learn the real reason of this special season, and witness how amazing God, and Christ truly are. I promise you, you will not regret spending time with the Lord, because time with the Lord is time well spent.

Have an amazing Christmas Day. I hope it is filled with fun, good food, laughter and happiness. I pray that this day is good to you. And, if this Christmas season isn't too jolly, or you are missing someone close to your heart, I pray that this day shines some light, and you know that you are so loved. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it" - John 1:5

Remember, there is no 'Christmas' without CHRIST.

Lemon Zest Cake

Tuesday, 4 April 2017

I'm an absolute sucker for baking whenever I possibly can. There's something so fun about baking a cake or a batch of brownies whilst listening to your favourite playlist on Spotify. I love listening to country music, so when I'm baking I'm usually jamming out to some Jon Pardi or Brothers Osborne.... it's a necessity.

Over the sunny Saturday that the UK experienced last weekend I decided to make a Lemon cake. There's something about lemons and lemon cake that screams Spring to me, so I grabbed my Betty Crocker cake mix and spent a good 2 hours making, what I think, a pretty good looking cake if I do say so myself.

I love purchasing cake mixes because we can't always make something from scratch, but, the Betty Crocker cake mixes actually feels and tastes like you spent way longer making the cake than you did. They're so easy, a turn out amazing, so I decided to share this recipe with y'all so you can have some fun in the kitchen!

Prep:
Grab your apron and mixing bowl and set your oven to 180°C (160°C for fan assisted ovens) / Gas Mark 4. For cupcakes bake in a fan assisted oven at 160°C.
Preparation 10 mins
Baking time 23-28 mins
Serves 12

Ingredients:
180ml water
2 medium sized lemons
3 medium free range eggs
90ml vegetable oil (6 tbsp)
1 box of Betty Crocker Lemon Cake Mix
1 tub of Betty Crocker Zesty Lemon Icing
2 x 8" well-greased cake tins (or 2 x regular size muffin trays & cupcake cases)

Steps:
1: Mix the eggs, oil, water and cake mix gently together and whisk (by hand or electric mixer) for 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
2: Pour the cake mixture evenly into your two greased cake tins. For cupcakes pour mix evenly into the cupcake cases.
3: Bake in the centre of the oven for 23-28 minutes or until a rounded knife inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. For cupcakes bake both trays together for 18-22 minutes. Then cool on a wire rack. Sandwich your cakes together and cover with the Betty Crocker Zesty Lemon Icing.

If you make this cake make sure to tweet me a picture at @aspoonfulofhope - I'd love to see!
